Season 2, Episode 7 Transcript

Chase: Hey guys, so second video for the interaction styles. The second interaction style is my interaction style and those are the starters. Some people call them to get things going types. There are four types attached to the starters. That’s the ESFJs, the ESFPs, the ENTPs like myself and the ENFPs, so four types that are attached to the starters. If you notice the ESFJ is the only J type in the four, which makes them the odd man out, just like how the ESTP was the odd man out for the direct initiating control group, also known as the structure or in charge types. Yeah, starters are very interesting. We have one fatal flaw from being a starter and that is the inability to finish practically anything we start because we’ll start everything, like to us life is like a shotgun.

Chase: You’re just close-range, you shooting and just kind of see where everything lays basically, instead of like some types, which would be the see it through types, which we’ll talk about in the next video, they’re more like sniper rifles. Those shot-gunners and yes, we do like to ride shotgun too, if you know what I mean, are really focused on putting in a lot of energy into the beginning of things. We just get so easily excited about the newest fad, the newest trend and we just go all-in immediately so much so that it causes whiplash to those around us. Like for example, I’m putting in a lot of energy into this YouTube channel. Man, it’s a lot of effort, but definitely worth it, but the risk is is that eventually I’m going to fizzle out.

Chase: Well, thing is though luckily I have [inaudible 00:02:15] child, so that means I’m not interested in letting any of my audience down, which means I’ll continue to do this, besides it’s part of my legacy and I have other important reasons that I need to do this because for some reason, no one is really aware of how depth psychology even works. There’s only a few people, very few people on the blogosphere or on YouTube that are actually discussing it properly. It bothers me and it’s giving the science a bad name, to the point, where it’s just being completely dismissed everywhere. That’s what I am starting to do as a starter type to basically stop that. Yeah, the starter types put in a lot of energy into the beginning, but well we have a hard time finishing things and it’s really difficult for us to do so.

Chase: What are the three aspects of the interaction style for starters? Well that’s informative, initiating, movement. If you remember direct initiating control was with the in-charge types and direct initiating control is initiating just like the starter types into formative initiating movement. Well that’s important because we’re initiating, we’re part of the extroverts. The four types and starters for that interaction style are extroverted just like the four types in the in-charge group, so we’re both initiating, we initiate with people, we don’t wait for people to come to us. In fact, sometimes when people do come to us, it throws us off. We have to sit and think a little bit more. It’s one of the ways that we just get thrown into our subconscious if we’re insecure about that, forward reaction or if it throws us in our unconscious side of our mind, our shadow. That can also [inaudible 00:04:17] introverted state when we’re forced to respond to somebody. I’m an ENTP, so if someone comes to me, initiates with me, I’m either instantly put in my ISFJ side or I’m put in my INTJ side to try to respond on their question. Usually, I can respond, but then initiate with another question that puts me right back in my ego and I’m good to go, if you know what I mean, but it also depends on what type they are too.

Chase: Sometimes, I wouldn’t want to do that because it could create conflict. We’ll have more videos on conflict management when we start really diving deep into our social engineering series, which is probably 50 plus videos down the road. Anyway, back to starters because I love going on tangents because I start everything, I’m just constantly starting things over and over and over, start this, start that, right? Well that’s a problem, I can’t finish anything, right, so constantly starting new stuff just like with this video. Anyway, I’m a starter type and informative initiating movement, so I’m informative, informative means I didn’t really go into too deep with this in the last video, but let me tell you a little bit more about what it means to be informative. I am a man of many words. I could talk your face off for days, weeks. I’m that guy that for an instant messaging, I’m probably spamming you constantly with just giant walls of text. I could write a paper two, three page, four page, 5,000 word paper in less than an hour, lightning quick. I’m constantly storing all that with me, so got to let it out sometimes.

Chase: That volume of words is not the only thing when it comes to being an informative interaction style. Informative also means that you’re also very cryptic and that’s really stressful, especially for relationships because things that I say aren’t always what I mean. There’s always context and subtext attached to what it is and you have to find out what the context is surrounding what I’m saying in order to decrypt the actual meaning. I’ve been accused so many times in my life of being cryptic. Well, to be honest that’s more of something that’s attached to ENTPs more than any other type, but ENFPs, well all of the starter types really suffer from it, but it’s especially bad with my type because I can get really cryptic. It’s because my virtue and vices, sincerity versus insincerity.

Chase: I can be the most sincere person to the point where it hurts, it hurts feelings because I’m so insanely blunt with the truth that people get all butt-hurt when I start telling the truth. When my point of view is like, “Yeah, well, it’s reality, get over yourself, it would help you grow as a human being if you would actually pay attention to what’s true instead of how you feel about it,” but it’s a bad thing, but I don’t care, I really don’t care because it’s the truth. The truth is not going to change because you don’t feel good about it, let’s be honest. Again that’s more of an ENTP issue.

Chase: The starters are all about starting new things, putting in a lot of energy, we’re informative. That makes us critics sometimes. You got a decrypt what we’re saying, which is really annoying at times for people. I know it is and I apologize and I don’t apologize at the same time because it is what it is, but there’s all this extra context or subtext attached to what I say. If I am direct, it’s usually it’s because I’m in my INTJ shadow or unconscious side of my mind. That’s when I’m being direct, but my ego and my subconscious are both informative. Again, remember regardless of what the four sides your mind is, each side of your mind is attached to its own interaction style. You don’t have this one interaction style that dominates your entire psyche, no, no, no. Each of your individual types that make up the four sides of your mind, ego, subconscious, unconscious, super-ego, those four sides, all of them have their own interaction style. As you study the interaction styles and the temperaments, you’ll understand that they each have their own temperament and they each have their own interaction style. That’s important when you’re trying to type somebody.

Chase: Movement, informative initiating and movement, I am movement. Starter types are movement. We fly by the seat of our pants. We’re constantly moving all the time, like you see those little kids in class that can’t sit straight? Yeah that’s because they’re movement. No, it’s not because they have ADD, it’s not because they have ADHD. That’s crap like that’s not even real in a lot of cases. Many people are misdiagnosed about that. Some people are properly diagnosed, but I’d say it’s an extremely low percentage to the people that actually do have ADD and ADHD compared to those that are actually just movement types because society is based on SJ types and we want you to be disciplined like our SI users, so you wouldn’t be moving so much in the classroom, so we’re just going to put you on Ritalin for the time being. Yeah that’s really productive way to just really build that society up guys, really nice.

Chase: Yeah, no that’s not going to work, so trying to navigate this hill here. Yeah, just be aware of that. Movement exists, you know what people say that we’re impatient that we go too quickly that we’re out of control that it’s all about chaos. Here’s another way of looking at progress, movement is all about progress. We don’t necessarily care so much about the completion of the task or the completion of anything as long as there’s progress towards completing it. Movement types are satisfied with progress. Control types that’s not the case. They live in the world of milestones and unless the project is moving forward in a meaningful way and following specific milestones, control types, especially direct initiating control types, the in-charge types will have a serious problem if you’re not meeting milestones. To movement types, it’s all about progress. You just need to show progress and that’s when we’re comfortable or happy. It’s not about milestones to us. It’s just about constant progress and if progress is not being made, we go crazy. There’s just this huge lack of movement and that lack of movement just is pure insanity, so pure insanity. Movement is important. Without movement, I go insane and there’s eight of 16 types that also go insane without progress. If progress is lost, good luck. It’s just like if control is lost, good luck.

Chase: From a control types point of view, if things are out of control, if there is chaos present, then progress can’t even occur. That’s how it is with them, whereas if there’s too much control from a movement type’s point of view, well progress can’t occur because progress can occur even in the midst of chaos and in fact, to movement types, sometimes we willfully inject chaos for the sake of movement, for the sake of gaining progress because we know things get bogged down, we know things get stale, thank you ESTJs and because of that stale situation, we inject chaos to a situation, a social situation, a business situation, a relationship just to bring some new life to it and to get it to a point, where it’s actually moving again because remember without movement, there’s no life, there really is not. If a river stops flowing, then all the life connected to that river will die essentially. Stagnant water, don’t drink it. Moving water, there’s life to be had and that’s the difference. Chaos is not a bad thing, but if it’s left out of control for too long, it can be a bad thing, to which I would start talking about chaotic evil and that’s where you get tropes like the Joker in the Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan’s Batman film with Heath Ledger.

Chase: Yeah that’s the starter types, have a really hard time finishing what they start, put a lot energy in the beginning of something and then, they fizzle out, go off on tangents, kind of like Gary Vaynerchuk talking about how he likes to riff all the time. Well that’s why he’s an ENFP, just like Tai Lopez. These ENFPs, they put a lot of energy in the start of things, but they have a hard time finishing them. When they finish something, it’s because it’s something that really, really matters to them, so remember that. They’re informative initiating movement, informative again has subtext attached to it, can be cryptic. You need to understand the context which it was said in order for you to completely understand the meaning and decrypt the meaning basically and initiating because they’re extroverted. That’s how you really tell the difference between an introvert and an extrovert, it’s about who can initiate with people and who’s responding, has nothing to do with whether or not you’re outgoing. That’s crap. I don’t even pay attention to that. Then, we just discussed movement versus control, so informative, initiating movement, those are the starter types.
