EXPOSE Your Inferior: A Preview of EgoHacking Your Fear (EYF)

What’s up, EgoHackers? This past week we officially launched EgoHacking Your Fear (EYF). EgoHacking Your Fear is the fruit of several months of dedicated work to provide you with the tools to overcome the deepest fears of your Inferior Function.

EgoHacking Your Fear is a portal to over 35 hours of content that ranges from building a philosophical framework that demonstrates how to properly understand our fear, to discussions of cultural demonization of anxiety, to how xenophobia stagnates our Inferior’s growth, and mainly to examining the fundamental strategies to transform our fear to aspiration.

How is it possible to transform your Inferior? Because within the very theme of the Inferior lies the key to the antidote to our fear. The other half of the “Inferior” is the “Aspirational” — which is unlocked when our fear falls away and courage is all that remains.

Of course, this is NOT how it really works is it? No. Because fear does not conveniently “leave” us. It must be transformed. And the process of our infant function moving from paralysis to courageousness starts with embracing the thing we fear embracing the most: our own inferiority.

Preview of the Course

“The Hard and Strong will Fall,

The Soft and Weak will Overcome.”

— Tao Te Ching, sec. 76

In the course we have an entire section — “In the Grip of Fear” — dedicated to laying out the principles for transforming our fear. The above Taoist quote illustrates a vivid picture that is echoed in Biblical scripture — “He who is faithful in little is faithful also in much” — of the pathway of the Inferior’s aspiration.

The essence of the course, both philosophically and practically, is realizing that our Inferior must be exposed to grow. We lay out the specific strategies of how to expose our Inferior so that is not overwhelmed.

Think of your Inferior function like an Infant. At times it is helpless, totally needy, dependent, and ineffective. But within the Inferior lies a visceral transformative power — just as the infant can one day become Heroic like it’s “father” Hero function.

We must cease the constant shielding of our Inferior — otherwise it has no reason to grow. Just as a spoiled child is not prepared for the challenges of reality, a shielded inferior lacks all resilience.

The Inferior must be exposed to reality. But here in lies the secret: no function responds more quickly or learns faster than the Inferior does. To expose our Inferior is to invest in our future.

Extraverted Inferiors must be exposed to the world around them, and the reality of others thoughts, feelings, attention, and desire.

Introverted Inferiors must expose themselves to the world within, about what they think, value, experience, and want.

And, *hint, hint*, the “Silver Bullet “ — Chase’s specific insight for each of the types — for the ESTP may be related to “exposure” in an even deeper way.

What’s Stopping Us From Exposure?

Pride. Pride and fear. We are prideful in believing that our Inferior has “already” made it. And we are prideful because we are afraid that we must go through the initially painful experience of exposing our weaknesses.

“Pride” is the simple answer. But nothing is ever that simple. Many of us regard “pride” as a simple judgment of character — “That person is prideful,” “He’s so cocky,” “He thinks he’s way smarter than he actually is,”or  “She’s so self-assured for no reason.”

But if you separate pride from a character judgment and distill it into a state of being, what do you have left? You have an interconnected system of attitudes, perspectives, and energies that pride exists within.

If you have read the recent article introducing Cognitive Circuits, then you are already aware of what this “interconnected system” looks like within the context of this psychology.

A “Cognitive Circuit” is the core mechanism of how the pieces of our personality communicate with each other, and how the state of one piece fundamentally affects the state of the entire circuit. And the Circuits reveal this insight: Pride does not stand alone.

The Importance of the Circuits

Cognitive Circuits are the fundamental tool that Chase and I use to show how to overcome and transform your fear. The circuits are the mechanism that propel this entire course.

The circuits are the two sets of communication between our functions.

The Gateway Circuit is a system of communication between our gateway functions — Hero, Inferior, Nemesis, and Demon.

The Guidance Circuit is the communication between our guidance functions — Parent, Child, Critic, and Trickster.

But if you zoom out of these circuits and realize that there are two ways to access each function — orderly vs. chaotic — then you can start to see the themes that govern each checkpoint (function) in each circuit.

Thus, to answer our earlier question — But if you separate pride from a character judgment and distill it into a state of being, what do you have left? — we have to examine the Circuits to see where pride exists, and what it exists in relation to.

The pride of the Hero, combined with the ignorance (willful blindness) of the Nemesis, and hatred of the Demon give rise to the fear and paralysis in the Inferior.

In other words, our Fear is the consequence of our Pride, Ignorance, and Hatred.

And if you’ve been following the Guidance Functions (Cutting Edge Feb 2022), and are aware of how they affect our Gateway functions, you know that is is carelessness (irresponsibility) with our parent that enables the pride of the Hero, and puts even more pressure on the fear in the Inferior.

The take home point is this: it is not our Inferior’s fault for being afraid.

The saying, “It takes a village to raise a child,” is never more true than within the ecosystem of our own psyches, as our Inferior cries help for support from all our functions. The Hero, as much as it would like to believe it can raise the infant on its own, cannot. But the Hero’s pride may linger still.

There is a path out of each ditch that our functions can fall into — pride, ignorance, hate, etc. On the other side of that ditch is the vehicle for our psychological growth and maturity: when pride moves to humility, ignorance to understanding, and hatred — through acknowledgment — is guided to love. And in the end, fear will be transformed to courage.

What the Course Will Offer

The course is made up of 6 sections, but the content can be thematically broken up into two sections: the foundation and the application.

The foundation of the course is about presenting a fundamentally different way of understanding fear, anxiety, and the “curse” of the Inferior. It is extremely tempting to fall into the belief that the Inferior function is a curse on our lives, a perpetual “thorn” in our side that exists to do nothing more than to prevent us from getting what would make our lives “complete”.

And there exists one of the purposes of the Inferior: to pull us on a journey toward psychological unity and to remind us that there is more to discover in life when we travel the fear-based obstacles that stand in our way.

But the Inferior is more than a mere reminder. Though it causes pain, it is also redemptive. And within the Inferior lies our most profound potential.

The application part in the course is a deep dive into the content mentioned above — 16 lectures dedicated to each of the types examining how to optimize their circuits and overcome their fear.

We delve into examining the relationship that fear has with the rest of our psyche, and lay out a transformational map of how we can move away from that paralyzing fear that holds us in chains and learn how to become a little freer from the bonds that entrap our Inferior function.

In the end, we are not merely free to become “more,” but to become who we already are. EgoHack Your Fear is an opportunity to reclaim some of the lost pieces of our identity. We hope you join us on that journey, and to experience who you are when liberated from fear.

You can begin that journey Here.

Resources to Prepare for the Course.

Below are links to some pre-content, some mentioned above, to prepare you for the course to get the most out of it.

  • Season 18, specially the lectures on Cognitive Mechanics — Axis, Orbit, and Reflection — are essential to getting the most out of this course.

  • This Article — “Introducing Cognitive Circuits”— introduces and discusses the fundamental tool to EgoHack Your Fear, each types Cognitive Circuits.

  • Chase’s and Chris Taylor’s Cutting Edge (February 2022) episode on Guidance Functions serves as the framework for unlocking the most consistent path to ease the fear in our Inferior — i.e. orderly transitions. Without optimizing Guidance Functions, orderly transitions extremely rare.

  • This Article — “Understanding the Inferior Functions Fear” — serves as an unintentional prequel to EYF course. In it we discuss both a preliminary version of the Cognitive Circuits AND how the Inferior can be benefited by optimizing both our Circuits.
